Text S1: Membrane Energy Minimization

چکیده

Assuming axial symmetry, we introduce a surface of revolution approach to model the membrane at equilibrium. We consider a generating curve γ parameterized by arc length s lying in the x− z plane. The curve γ is expressed as γ(0, s1) → R γ(s) = (R(s), 0, z(s)) (S1.1) where s1 is the total arc-length. This generating curve leads to a global parametrization of the membrane expressed as X : (0, s1)× (0, 2π) → R 3 (S1.2) X(s, u) = (R(s)cos(u), R(s)sin(u), z(s)) (S1.3) where u is the angle of rotation about z-axis. With this parametrization, the mean curvature H and the Gaussian curvature K are given as follows respectively

Enhancing energy minimization framework for scene text recognition with top-down cues

Recognizing scene text is a challenging problem, even more so than the recognition of scanned documents. This problem has gained significant attention from the computer vision community in recent years, and several methods based on energy minimization frameworks and deep learning approaches have been proposed. In this work, we focus on the energy minimization framework and propose a model that ...

Using Scale-Space Anisotropic Smoothing for Text Line Extraction in Historical Documents

This paper presents a novel approach for text line extraction which is based on Gaussian scale space, a dedicated binarization, and an energy minimization framework. It enhances the text lines in the image using multi-scale anisotropic second derivative of Gaussian filter bank at the average height of the text line. It then applies a binarization, which is based on component-tree and is tailore...

Multi-Component-Multiphase Flash Calculations for Systems Containing Gas Hydrates by Direct Minimization of Gibbs Free Energy

The Michelsen stability and multiphase flash calculation by direct minimization of Gibbs free energy of the system at constant temperature and pressure, was used for systems containing gas hydrates. The solid hydrate phase was treated as a solid solution. The fugacities of all components of the hydrate phase were calculated as a function of compositions by the rearranged model of van der Wa...

Energy minimization strategies and renewable energy utilization for desalination: a review.

Energy is a significant cost in the economics of desalinating waters, but water scarcity is driving the rapid expansion in global installed capacity of desalination facilities. Conventional fossil fuels have been utilized as their main energy source, but recent concerns over greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions have promoted global development and implementation of energy minimization strategies and ...

Crossflow Filtration of Sodium Chloride Solution by A Polymeric Nanofilter: Minimization of Concentration Polarization by a Novel Backpulsing Method

In the present study, the production of low-salt water from salty water by nanofiltration as well as membrane fouling was investigated. Furthermore, a new method was proposed and tested experimentally for creating the backpulse in order to minimization of fouling and increase of the filtration efficiency. In the proposed method, the permeate was used instead of gas for creating the...
